15 Minutes With Kitty from Models1

Kitty Models1 Liike Magazine

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Bookworm, shy and funny

How old were you when you got into modelling?

I think I was first scouted when I was 15

Where were you scouted?

Cambridge, I was shopping there and got scouted by Models1 outside of Jack Wills, as I think they were working with them

Did you always want to be a model?

No I don’t think so. Sometimes I used to do poses and mess around in front of the mirror but never thought I would model. I always thought I was more arty, sort of creating art, but I think modelling is also a form of art in itself

What do you love about the industry?

Its creativity. Everyone has a different idea of what they want to create and its fun to see that happen

Whats been your favourite shoot to date?

I like doing beauty shoots. I did a story for Cosmopolitan last year which was beauty and hair so I really enjoyed that

What are you ultimate goals for modelling?

A Vogue cover is the dream but I’m not going to be too set on it otherwise I’d probably be disappointed.

What have you learnt from modelling so far?

I think my time management has gotten a lot better. Travel especially as timing is so important. Also I'm more independent as well which is a good thing

How do you relax when you’re not modelling?

Socialise and hang out with friends really

Whats next?

Just to see where it goes!

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Funny, easy going and ambitious.

How old were you when you got into modelling?

Well, it was only a month ago so 21.

How did you get into modelling?

My boyfriend has been a model with Models1 for a long time and he went into the agency, coincidentally I was with him, and they asked if they could send me on a test shoot and it went from there. He keeps saying that if I get any big jobs he should get a cut but definitely not!

Did you always want to be a model?

No, I’d never really thought about it. People said before that I should think about modelling but never really considered it. I’m from Bournemouth and its not really a place for scouting. I feel in London you can be anywhere and get scouted.

What do you love about modelling?

I’ve met so many nice people doing it and that’s what I enjoy the most.

What’s your everyday dress style?

Normally I just wear black. I’m not very fashion forward, just simple black looks.

Mollie Models1

Whats been your favourite shoot to date?

I think it was a shoot that I did where dresses were made of scarfs and he made them on set. He was tying them to me and made them into a dress. That was pretty cool.

When you’re not modelling how do you unwind?

At the moment I’m watching a lot of Orange Is The New Black and Love Island. I’m embarrassed to say that but I’m obsessed with Love Island. Basically I just watch junk on tv or go to the gym. I’m quite boring really!

Where are you at your happiest?

Probably when I’m with my boyfriend.

Whats next for you?

I’ve got no idea but I kind of like it. I’ve not been modelling long so I’m just excited to see where it will go and what will happen.

No, I always wanted to be a doctor

I haven’t experienced that much yet but for now I love creativity and photography so its fun to be apart of that

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Crazy and I don’t know. It’s hard. Pisces. Does that work?

How old were you when you got into modelling?

I started when I was 12 and now I’m 18. I started doing shows in Brazil, in Brasilia they don’t care about the age, but I couldn’t go to Sao Paulo for example because for fashion week you need to be 16 to start.

How did you get into modelling?

A lot of people would speak to my mum and say "shes so tall and thin" so my mum decided to look for an agency. We found one called Unique Models in Brazil by checking the website and I sent them my pictures and they called me.

Did you always want to be a model?

No, at first I didn’t. I don’t know. I think at first because I was so young I didn’t even really think about it. I didn’t realise how it would be with the travelling around and everything. I just started for a hobby really.

What do you love about the industry?

Being a model changed my life for sure. If I wasn’t a model I maybe couldn’t have travelled to as many places as I have. I love learning about different cultures and languages as well.

Do you think your idea of modelling has changed over time?

Sure. When I started I thought it would be easy but now I see it’s a hard job. Because I’m Brazilian and spend a lot of time in Europe I’m only going home once a year maybe as its so expensive so this is quite hard as well.

What have you been doing whilst you’ve been in London?

I’ve done some shoots for magazines and I did a showroom and fit for Alexander McQueen. That was really fun.

When you’re not working how do you relax?

Reading a book or listening to some music. Maybe some exercise, depends on my mood.

Where are you happiest?

Brazil for sure. Home, because of my family and friends.

What’s next?

Going back to Milan for shows and then we’ll see.

How did you get into it?

I had been scouted quite a lot when I was younger, probably for being 5ft9 by the time I was 12 but I was scouted when I was 17 and finally thought I would give it a go and so I started shooting and fell in love with it.

Did you always want to be a model?

I wouldn’t say I always wanted to be a model, I used to watch Americas next top model and things like that when I was younger but it didn’t come into my mind as a career or as a passion until I started doing it

What do you love about the industry?

I love meeting creatives and being introduced to so many amazing creative industries and individuals that I probably wouldn’t have been able to if I hadn’t started modelling.

Do you think your perception of modelling has changed since you’ve started doing it?

It has changed in the sense that before I started I had this image that it would be very easy and everything would come to you on a plate and you wouldn’t need to work for anything. I’ve learnt while doing it that its hard work and it does require dedication but if you love it things works out.

Blouse by Uterqüe

Whats been your favourite shoot to date?

I’d say I pretty much enjoy every shoot I do. On a personal level I did a shoot a while back for a music video for an artist called Mike Hawkins which was really fun, as I’d never really worked with a film crew before, so that was really exciting and also I met my boyfriend on that shoot and we got to drive around in a vintage Porsche which was really cool. On a professional level I’d say that when I did a shoot a while ago, my first shoot for Wonderland, that was in Manchester and that was really fun because it was a bit of travelling and the team were amazing and it was just a really fun day.

When you’re not working how do you like to unwind?

To be honest, I really like watching sports. I love to work out, walk my dog. Things like that. I do a lot of boxing, watch a lot of boxing and swimming. Something about watching other people work relaxes you in a really strange way.

Whats Next?

Individuality.

No, it wasn’t really something that occurred to me until the last year and a half. Now I really enjoy it, its really fun.

What do you love about the industry?

I love having this behind the scenes experience that you wouldn’t get otherwise. So if you read magazines and stuff you don’t really know whats happening. I also get to meet lots of creative people which is great as well.

Are you able to show your personal style whilst modelling?

Yeah definitely, there have been a few shoots where they’ve just said do what you want which is really fun but then at the same time I don’t really know what to do sometimes.

Whats been your favourite shoot that you’ve been on to date?

There was one really cool one where I got to wear these really nice boots and I just loved them and the clothes were great. I just enjoy getting to wear nice outfits, its really fun.

Definitely at home, I love hanging out with my friends and watching movies and when I hang out with my friends we just make stuff like food, its really unhealthy but its pretty fun.

Whats next for you?

I guess I’ll see where it goes, I don’t really have any plans for the immediate future. I kind of have this bucket list of what I want to do with modelling. So I haven’t done a show yet but really want to do one this year. Its really random but I really want to do a shoot with an animal as well and also on a rooftop.

15 Minutes With Maria from Not Another Agency

Photography Daniela Gerosa
Model Maria C with Not Another Agency
Make Up Sarah Lanagan with Distinct Management
Jewellery Edge Only

How would you describe yourself in a three words?

Whimsical, adventurous and excitable

How old were you when you got into modelling?

I was 20 when I first got into modelling. I always wished that I had started a little earlier than that, but now I think that it was the right time for me. I’m not too sure if my 15 or 16 year old self would have been mature enough to work in the industry.

How did you get into it?

I had heard that there was a casting for a local model agency going on down the street from where I was living at the time. I decided to skip the couple of Uni lectures I had that day and give it a go - It was definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made!

Did you always want to be a model?

Yes! Secretly! I always loved the idea of modelling and coveted hundreds of copies of Vogue and Elle growing up just so I could marvel at the gorgeous shoots. But I thought that the majority of the models in them didn’t look anything like me so I presumed that there was no hope!

What do you love about the industry?

There are so many things I love about the industry. I think the fascinating Creatives that I have been so lucky to meet is probably my favourite thing. I also love those times on set when every element of a shoot comes together so perfectly and the energy is just electric – that’s magic!

What is your dressing style in everyday life?

I have quite a minimalistic style. I wear a lot of black and neutral earthy colours that complement my complexion the most. At the moment I’m obsessed with the combination of a crisp Breton stripe and a bold red lip.

When you’re not on set how do you like to unwind?

I am a huge book worm, so curling up with my favourite book next to a fire is my idea of bliss! I also love to sail whenever I get the chance and when the Irish weather lets up.

Where are you happiest?

I’m probably happiest being in the front row at a Kooks concert

15 Minutes With Emma from Storm

Photographer & Stylist Tomila Katsman
H&M Hayley Miles
Model Emma Barley with Storm Models

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Positive, cheerful and determined

How old were you when you got into modelling?
I was 14, so I'm into my 6th year now!

How did you get into it?
I was scouted whilst shopping with my brother for a pair of pink pants he needed for a party outside T K Maxx

Best advice you've ever received?
Be true to yourself and never give up, you can do anything you put your mind to

What makes you feel good?
Dancing, I love a good boogie

Do you ever get shy in front of the camera?
I used to when I was younger, it's only hard now when you've got lots of pairs of eyes on you. However, I've learnt to just focus on the camera and ask if the client wants anything done differently

Where are you happiest?
Either on a crisp sunny walk in the park with my dog and family or snuggled in with a blanket and a hot choc

What's next?
I'm having the best time modelling at the moment as I get to meet amazing people all the time and travel. So I'm going to carry on as long as I can and see where it takes me so who knows!

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Loving, spontanious, weird.

How old were you when you got into modelling?

20

How did you get into it?

I got asked by a make up artist to be a model and thought ok I'll get some pretty make up and once she put the images up photographers started asking to work with me.

Did you always want to be a model?

No, I never thought I could be one. I always thought I would end up being a Bollywood actress. I still think one day I'll just walk down the street and someone will spot me and say that they want me for a film.

What do you love about the industry?

The passion that people have to create something. Sometimes when I show my images to people they're like is that really you, the wow factor to create something that people don't think is possible.

What is your dressing style in everyday life?

Pretty casual, whatever mood I'm in.

Whats been your favourite campaign or shoot to date?

Theres been so many, the favourite could be the one in Lake Como and the other has been for a hair stylist because I worked with some big models and I didn't think I was at the same level but had been booked to be there as well so that was cool. I like all my shoots though as they're all different.

What are you currently working on?

Myself, I'm trying to make a name in the ecom industry. I love to see my face everywhere like when you're shopping and like there I am.

When you're not on set how do you like to unwind?

I'm either shopping, playing basketball or going to watch my friends play American football... or eating chicken. Mondays are chicken day so all my friends and me have to have chicken, no matter where we are.

Where are you happiest?

With my family or in a bikini on the beach, maybe eating chicken.

Whats next?

Finding myself.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Fun, loyal and outgoing.

How old were you when you got into modelling?
16

How did you get into it?
I was at Charing Cross train station and a girl called Jody, who used to work at Lenis, approached me and when I was on holiday with my family last year in LA I got asked a couple of times so thought maybe I should start.

Did you always want to be a model?
When I was younger I would watch Americas next top model and catwalk around the room with my mum, I guess it was something I always dreamed of.

What do you love about the industry?
I love the opportunity of meeting so many new and diverse people. And I love the creativity within the industry.

Whats been your favourite shoot so far to date?
I did a shoot for BOY London and that was so much fun, it was really edgy and alternative.

Where are you happiest?

I'm happiest surrounded by my best friends and family. But I'm also happiest lying in bed, asleep.

When you're not on set how do you like to unwind?

When I'm not on set I love just being with my friends or I try to relax and release my stress by baking cakes, it definitely works.

What's next for you?

I'd like to be involved in London fashion week and get on the catwalk, I think it's something I would love.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

A little weird!

How old were you when you got into modelling?

13

How did you get into it?

It's pretty weird. Basically I was sitting in a restaurant in the middle east and this woman came up to me and gave me a card and told me to get my mum to call so that's how I started freelancing. I would do magazine shoots and then when I came back to Britain when I was 18 I was scouted and said no and went to university. After I finished though I moved down to London and felt it was the right time.

Did you always want to be a model?

At first I thought it was interesting but none of my friends were doing it and I felt like I wanted to do what my friends were doing so went between yes and no for a while but finally its a yes.

Do you think your perception of modelling has changed after time?

Yeah for sure, because when I started I wasn't in the industry, I was just freelancing, so I didn't know the goings on and about eating disorders and all of those things as I was quite separate from all of that but now I've started modelling full time I think I've started at a good time as things are getting better. Models have more rights and people treat you better so I guess my perception was all fine and dandy but it could be bad for models so its definitely changed and I feel it will continue to change as I continue to do more.

Are you able to show your personal style as castings?

I don't think personally I can as I like to wear baggy clothes or quite Grandma Chic clothes so for castings where you have to show of your body you have to be quite bland but I guess you can accessorise but its a lot of hassle so no I guess not really.

What's been your favourite campaign or shoot to date?

This one obviously, I would say everything I do is my favourite as you always get to meet new people, no one seems to have the same ideas for shoots so everything is different so I can't really choose an ultimate favourite but I'm going to say this one.

When you're not on set, how do you like to unwind?

I love running and listening to music, I like going out with my friends and going to art galleries and London is a great place for it.

What's next for you?

I don't know. I don't really plan anything anymore as everything always changes but I'd love to continue modelling for as long as possible and then I don't know. Maybe something to do with charities but I also love writing and fashion so definitely something creative.

In a few words, tell us about your style?

Feminine, Polished, Romantic

How did you get into professional hair and make up?

I did a makeup course part time for a year whilst in year 12 at Secondary collage, I then worked briefly for Dior cosmetics before taking on a hairdressing apprenticeship at Shibui hair salon, where I then became a senior cutter and stylist. During this time I would do test shoots and eventually became a freelance hair & make up artist full time.

What inspires and influences you when you're creating?

The latest fashion collections are always inspiring.

Do you have a favourite brand of make up or hair product?

Favourite make up brands would be Chanel, Mac and Ellis Faas. Favourite hair label would definitely be Kevin Murphy.

What do you enjoy most about working as a professional hair & make up artist?

Getting creative, creating a beautiful image you can keep forever.

What do you look for when considering a team to work with on editorials?

A team that has a similar taste to you in regards to their work and has passion for what they create. Its important to have a team that are all on the same page and truly love their style of work otherwise you'll be disappointed with the outcome.

What has been the most memorable shoot you've done to date, good or bad?

One of the most memorable would probably be doing one of my shoots at a recycling yard for a fashion labels 20th anniversary, it was such a hot day and smelt so bad but it looked pretty amazing as the whole yard was so organised. Big stacks of tin cans, yellow pages, milk bottles etc. Which made all the colours really pop.

If you could give your younger self a piece of advice, what would it be?

Don't stress because everything thats meant to be will happen.

What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment I'm working on a few beauty shoots.

What would be your ideal campaign to work on?

I love Australian labels, so I'd love to work with Zimmerman or Lover. Internationally I'm loving the direction Gucci is going at the moment, so that would be a dream.

If you were to give a piece of advice to aspiring hair and make up artists what would it be?

It would be not to stress what make up school you go to. Go to school and learn the basics, how to colour correct etc. Start assiting and learn on the job, also there are so many videos online to learn tricks from now. Save your money to buy a piece towards your kit every week because kits are expensive. I also recommend learning hair, you really need both. Don't do a little course, do an apprenticeship, its the only way to truly understand hair and make sure its with a really good salon.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

German sparkle party.

How old were you when you got into modelling?

14

How did you get into it?

I was scouted on the streets in Windhoek in Namibia and this German magazine had this thing of no models in their magazine and I ended up shooting with them and the photographer from the shoot sent my photos to an agency in Cape Town.

Did you always want to be a model?

No, not really. It was never really my plan but when it happened it happened and I enjoyed it so I’m still doing it.

What do you love about the industry?

I like the variety of people. I love the creativity around it because once you've taken the photos you always expect them to look a certain way but when you get them they can be completely different and I just love meeting people working within the industry.

Are you able to show your own personal style whilst modelling?

I guess so, I’m in the photos. Always, kind of, sort of.

What have you learnt from modelling and how did it change you as a person?

I think modelling has given me a lot of confidence to truly be honest with people because a lot of the time people try and change you and what I've learnt is that I don't have to change if I don't want to.

What do you do when you’re not on set?

I read a lot, mostly if i'm not at home reading or watching movies I’m out with people. I love hiking and writing and recording music but mostly out and about.

Where are you happiest?

At the beach with a whisky old fashioned, a cigar and a steak with garlic butter.

Whats next for you?

Life.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Fun, demanding and cheeky.

How old were you when you got into modelling?

I first got scouted when I was 15 but I started properly at 21 as I went to Uni and had to concentrate on that.

How did you get into it?

I was scouted in Brent Cross, there was this weird woman looking at me and I asked my sister why does she keep on looking at me. My sister said ignore her and 5 minutes later she came over. I was only 15 at the time so my sister asked can I help you and she started to ask whether I had ever considered modelling. I was really tall and skinny and people always said I should model but I thought that just because I was tall and skinny I didn’t need to model, there were a lot of other things I could do. Eventually I thought why not and gave it a go.

What do you love about the industry?

Its different, you can be yourself. Creative and unique and I think its important to be individual.

Has your perception of modelling changed as times gone on?

In the beginning I didn’t really know anything about it but obviously I’ve been in it a little while so I’m learning to grow with it. I feel like theres an issue with diversity but I do think its getting better but think more could be done.

Whats been your favourite thing to date that you’ve done within the industry?

In May I went to Cannes for three days. It was for a media premiere for a film called trolls, I was the yellow one so had to have a cool wig and we got to meet Justin Timberlake and dance behind him. It was all over the news and stuff and good morning Britain. My friends kept sending me videos whilst I was on the tv. That was really big. It was Cannes film festival. I loved it.

What do you plan on doing next?

For now I’d love to get some big global campaigns but eventually I’d like to start my own modelling agency, maybe in the next 8 years. I just need to build up my contacts.
